During September we are focusing on how journaling can enhance our prayer life.
To introduce this month of journaling, this week we will focus on a practice that is most effective when used over an extended time period, so that you can track the presence of God working on your life over time.
Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. Habakkuk 2:2
Think about your day and select an event or interaction that stands out to you. As you write about it, respond to the following questions: What feelings did the event or interaction raise? How was God present in the event? What does God want me to learn from this event? How might it help me to grow as a disciple of Christ? Do I feel differently about the event when viewed through the eyes of faith?
Keep your journal for several days or weeks and review the entrees periodically. Do you notice patterns of God’s action in your life? Have you become better at noticing God’s presence? Are you able to see how God answers your prayers? How is your relationship with God developing?
You may notice that insights emerge in your writing that you did not consciously reach. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you to a closer relationship with God.
Lord, make us who you want us to be.
