During October we are focusing praying for others.
On World Communion Sunday we celebrate our unity with Christians around the world, sharing in the love of Christ that knows no boundaries. Thus this week we will focus on praying for the world.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:18
Praying for the needs of the world can be overwhelming. World Vision offers some tips that may be helpful in organizing and inspiring your prayers.
-
Pray through the news. Disasters, natural and human-caused, can be overwhelming and unending. Our instinct is to withdraw and tune out the tragedy. This week, engage the news in a spirit of prayer. Make an effort to learn more, to deepen your prayers, to pray for specific needs. Pray for comfort and relief of distress of those in poverty, war, and disaster.
-
Pray throughout the day. As you go through daily activities, pray for those who do not have access to the things we often take for granted. As you shower, pray for those without access to clean water. As you prepare your meals, remember those who are hungry. As you ask your children or grandchildren about school, pray for those without an education.
-
Listen to the Lord’s Prayer in different languages. Pray for the unity of Christians worldwide.[1]
Lord, make us what you want us to be.
