During October we are focusing praying for others.
The scripture lesson from John 5 relates the story of a man who had suffered from disability for 38 years without anyone to bring him to treatment. How often are those who need help right under our noses, lost among the many who are suffering? This week we will focus our prayers on those who are overlooked and forgotten in our society and for those who feel abandoned.
Look on my right hand and see—
there is no one who takes notice of me;
no refuge remains to me;
no one cares for me.
I cry to you, O Lord;
I say, "You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living."
Psalm 142:4-5
Throughout the week, pray for those around us who are:
- Lonely and isolated
- Estranged from family and friends
- Trapped in unhealthy relationships
- Homeless
- Homebound or without transportation
- Struggling with mental health issues
- Struggling with physical health issues
- Suffering without access to healthcare
- Suffering from addictions
- Unemployed or underemployed
Pray that we create a society in which all people are remembered and cared for as children of God.
Lord, make us what you want us to be.
