During October we are focusing praying for others.
Today we celebrate the Children’s sabbath, focusing on the needs of children in our community and throughout the world. The Children’s Defense Fund lists prayer as the first step to "move forward with hope to seek love and justice for every child."
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me."
Mark 9:36-37
Throughout the week, pray for children in need:
- Children born prematurely, at low birthrate, or addicted to their mother’s drugs
- Children living in poverty needing food and clothing
- Children suffering abuse or neglect
- Children who have lost their parents
- Children in the foster care system
- Children who lack quality education
- Children who are suspended or expelled from schools
- Children in the criminal justice system
- Children who struggle with addiction
- Children who are bullied
- Children who suffer violence
- Children who lack good health care
- Children suffering depression and at risk of suicide
- Children searching for purpose in life
- Children in need of love
Pray that we create a society in which all children can flourish and grow into the potential God gave them.
Lord, make us what you want us to be.
